Beautiful Wisconsin is a tourist’s dream with it lovely lakes, fertile plains, valleys, and forested areas. Because of the constant influx of tourists to the State and its already heavily congested cities such as Milwaukee, Wisconsin auto insurance is an absolute must. Wisconsin Auto Insurance Requirements
Though the State of Wisconsin does not requires that its motorists carry liability coverage, it does strongly recommend that Wisconsin auto insurance carriers have liability insurance at least at the basic amount of 25/50/10. This insurance would protect against medical injuries and car and property damage should the motorists be at fault for the accident and required to pay. The breakdown would be as follows:
- Bodily Injury Liability – The insured’s Wisconsin auto insurance company will pay out up to $25,000 in medical expenses for minimum coverage for one person injured in the vehicle as a result of the insured causing the accident.
- A total amount of $50,000 would be paid out for more than one person’s medical expenses as a result of the vehicle collision.
- Property Damage Liability – The recommended amount for basic Wisconsin auto insurance for liability coverage would be for the amount of a maximum of $10,000 to be paid out for damages to the other vehicle.
Wisconsin recommends that their motorists take out Comprehensive and Collision coverage in the event that the driver deemed at fault does not have enough Wisconsin auto insurance for liability coverage to pay for the damages caused to the insured’s car. Comprehensive and Collision coverage will also cover against damages caused by wildlife or by natural forces.
Since Wisconsin does not require that its motorists carry liability insurance, it does require that they carry Wisconsin auto insurance for Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Protection. UM protection will cover the insured when the other driver is at fault for the accident but failed to have enough insurance to cover medical expenses and damage to the victim’s car. UM protection will also cover damages sustained to the car by a hit and run driver.
