Virginia Auto Insurance
Virginia has mountains, valleys, ravines, caverns, lakes, rivers, forests, and beautiful beaches. Virginia also relies on the tourism industry. Virginians need proper auto insurance coverage to make sure they are protected on the roads. On average in 2007, Virginia auto insurance was well below the national average of $1896 by $305 dollars making Virginia auto insurance one of the lowest in the USA. Of course these figures represent an average and the individual motorists will pay more or less depending upon their own situation.
Virginia Auto Insurance Requirements
Virginia is one of the few states, which does not require that its motorists carry liability insurance. Because of this, every motorist must carry Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Protection. UM Virginia auto insurance protects against a hit an run accident or when the driver deemed at fault does not have enough or even any insurance to cover medical expenses and to the injured UM insured or to pay repairs to their car.
Though Virginia does not require that its motorists carry Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability it does strongly recommend that its motorists carry the basic amount set at 25/50/10. The recommended insurance would break down as follows:
- Bodily Injury Liability – Virginia recommends that its motorists carry a basic amount of $25,000 to pay for any injuries they may have caused to a party in the other car.
- A total amount of $50,000 should be carried to pay for injuries sustained by more than one party in the other car.
- Property Damage Liability – a total amount of $10,000 (basic coverage) should be carried to provide for damages caused by the insured to the other party’s vehicle.
Virginia also recommends that its motorists carry Virginia auto insurance that includes Comprehensive and Collision protection. Comprehensive and Collision will protect the insured’s car from damages sustained by wildlife or acts of nature. It will also help cover their medical expenses and damages they have caused to their own vehicle when deemed to be at fault in an accident.
