Oregon landscape is breathtaking complete with its rugged mountain ranges, farmland, enchanting forests and very busy cities like Portland. However, as beautiful as it is traveling the winter roads Oregon can be treacherous and motorists must have Oregon auto insurance protection.

Oregon Auto Insurance Requirements

Oregon is a No Fault Insurance State and because of that, their motorist’s auto insurance must include Personal Injury Protection. PIP will cover the insured for loss of income, medical expenses, and death benefits regardless of who was deemed at fault.

Oregon requires its motorists to take out at least the minimum on Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability, in the event that they were found to be at fault. Oregon auto insurance minimum limits are set at 25/50/10.

• Bodily Injury Liability – Oregon auto insurance coverage must payout the maximum amount of $25,000 for medical injuries sustained by one person injured in an accident that was caused by the insured.
• A total of $50,000 for Bodily Injury Liability will be paid out among all passengers who were injured in the accident.
• Property Damage Liability – The Oregon auto insurance company will payout $10,000 in total, for damages caused to the other driver’s car, and for private and public property.

Oregon does recommend that its motorists take out higher levels of liability coverage to offset the major accidents costs, which they have caused. Oregon also recommends that their insured take out Comprehensive and Collision coverage, which will pay for damages sustained to their own car (up to the Blue Book value listing) should they be the driver at fault. Comprehensive and Collision will also cover damage sustained by natural forces.

The State of Oregon also requires that each motorist carry Oregon auto insurance coverage to protect themselves from a hit and run. Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist protection will also afford them funds to pay for the damages sustained upon their vehicle should the driver who was at fault be unable to pay. Many motorists are driving around without any or sufficient liability insurance to cover their own damages. UM insurance will protect the insured from falling victim to an uninsured or underinsured driver.
