Nevada Auto Insurance

There is no doubt that Nevada is a tourist state, Los Vegas alone brings in 40 million tourists yearly from all over the states and other parts of the world. Take this influx of drivers to the state of Nevada and add it to rugged terrain, congested streets, and you will see why good Nevada auto insurance coverage is needed. Nevada auto insurance rates rose in 2007 by 5.7% to $2,060 making it above the nation average of $1896.

Nevada Auto Insurance Requirements

The Nevada State minimum for Bodily Injury and Property Damage liability requirements is actually very low.  The minimum Nevada auto insurance companies must offer is set at 15/30/10.

  • Bodily Injury Liability – Basic Nevada auto Insurance is required to pay out up to $15,000, for any medical injuries sustained by one person in the other car.
  • An additional $15,000, for a total of $30,000 will be paid out for more than one person injured in the other car by the insurance company of the driver who is at fault.
  • Property Damage Liability  – The at fault driver will be covered for $10,000 for damage incurred to the other driver’s vehicle, private property such as homes, and public property such as road signs.

Since these minimums set by Nevada are lower than some of the states, Nevada recommends that its motorist obtain higher levels of Property Damage and Bodily Injury Liability insurance.

It is always recommended that Nevada auto insurance protection include Comprehensive and Collision coverage in order to have funds available for their own car repairs should they be at fault and have funds for damages to their car caused by nature or wildlife.

In addition, since many tourists travel to Nevada, there will be people who are driving with little or no auto insurance.  Nevada requires that it motorists carry Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist protection to cover costs to their vehicle should the at fault driver have little or no auto insurance.  UM insurance will also protect the insured against a hit and run collision.

Nevada auto insurance can also include GAP insurance.  Many drivers are driving vehicles they still have a loan on.  If that car should be totaled in an accident, car insurance companies will only pay the Blue Book value. This amount could be lower than the loan they still have to pay for a car they no longer have.  GAP insurance will fill in the gap to cover the difference.
