  • Bodily Injury Liability – Bodily Injury Liability requirement set by law for Maine auto insurance is $50,000. This amount is to be used for payout requirement by the at fault driver for medical expenses of the other driver or passengers driving in that car.
  • The maximum payout for medical expenses required by more that one person is set at $100,000.
  • Property Damage Liability  – Property Damage Liability is intended to insure the at fault driver against car damages sustained on the other vehicle and damage to personal and public property such as homes, buildings and traffic signs. This amount is set at $25,000.00.

Residents of Maine should also carry comprehensive and collision in case they are found to be at fault, this insurance will cover damage on their own car, and it will also cover damage caused by contact with wildlife or natural causes such as storm damage.

Maine requires its drivers to carry Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage in case the driver at fault for the accident is underinsured or is not insured at all.
