Idaho Auto Insurance

Idaho, because of its northern geographical location is also a state that that has a tough wintertime.  Idaho’s annual snowfall can reach up to 500 inches in some of the mountainous areas. Idaho enjoys some of the most rugged terrains in the entire USA, especially being a Rocky Mountain State.  Driving through Idaho in the wintertime can be treacherous and of course Idaho citizens must have proper auto insurance coverage. Idaho residents pay well below the national rate for auto insurance, subject to individual insured particulars.  In 2006, Idaho motorists paid $1548 on average, and experienced a drop of 6.2% when the auto insurance premiums went down to $1457 in 2007.  Currently Idaho is ranked as the fifth lowest car insurance rate state.

Idaho Auto Insurance Requirements

It comes as no surprise that Idaho auto insurance coverage must include at least the basic amounts for bodily injury protection and property damage to help offset the enormous car accident claims that the at fault driver in the state would have to payout. The 25/50/15 for minimum coverage is as follows:

  • Bodily Injury Protection – The basic amount paid out for medical expenses sustained by a single person in the other car is set at $25.000.
  • A total amount for Bodily Injury Protection to cover more than one individual hurt in the accident is set at $50,000.
  • Property Damage Liability – The Total basic coverage for property damage to the other vehicle and public and private property damage is set at $15,000 per accident.

Of course greater protection is recommended as the cost of medical expensive and property damage can be quite costly. Drivers should consider their Idaho auto insurance to include Comprehensive and Collision coverage.  This type of insurance would cover damages sustained to the car of the at fault driver and would also protect against damage caused by nature, such as major storms or collision with wildlife.

Drivers should consider insuring themselves against drivers who do not carry any Idaho auto insurance or do not have enough coverage in case they are the ones to cause the damage.  Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist protection would provide the necessary funds to pay for car damages.
