The Travelers Insurance Company first came on the scene in 1864 in Hartford, CT. Travelers has been the implementer of many firsts in the insurance industry. They were the first to introduce the auto policy, the first to introduce the commercial airline policy, as well as the first to provide a policy to cover space travel. As of August 2009, according to the company rating guru Standard & Poor, Travelers is expected to continue to out- perform the industry – providing there are no major catastrophes for the 2009-2010 rating period. Travelers continues to be an industry leader in both commercial and personal lines products. There are numerous subsidiaries in many states that find their home under the Travelers large red umbrella and all are poised to do very well now and into the future.

PERSONAL LINES DISCOUNTS
Auto policy discounts come in the form of multi-car, hybrid car, good driver, driver training, good student, and discounts for passive restraints, and anti-theft devices. Not all discounts are available in all states.
Homeowners can take advantage of new or renovated home discounts, multi-policy discounts, claim free discounts and home security discounts.
Renters and Condo owners can qualify for claim free and security discounts in most states.
Hybrid and Electric boats can receive a 10% discount.
Travelers Insurance Companies can write business insurance in 90 countries worldwide. Travelers Insurance can also write coverage in all 50 states. Although Travelers Insurance has been identifying itself with an umbrella since 1959 when the slogan was, “You’re better off underneath the umbrella,” the icon was lost to Citigroup when Travelers spun off from them in 2002. Citigroup took control of Travelers and it’s iconic umbrella in 1993 but decided in 2002 that insurance did not go well with banking and cut Travelers loose. St. Paul Travelers just purchased the icon back from Citigroup in 2007 for a significant sum and it was at that time Travelers opted to get rid of the St. Paul name altogether. Polls show that people still equate the umbrella with Travelers even though Citigroup used it for almost a decade.
