Meritplan Auto Insurance is an insurance company that was established in California in the early 1950’s. After many acquisitions and partnership formations, Meritplan is a subsidiary of Balboa Insurance, which is a subsidiary of Countrywide Financial and Bank of America.
There is not a lot of information available about the Meritplan company except that despite some of its connections to companies with unstable finances, it still holds an A rating for financial stability by the A.M. Best ratings company.
Meritplan offers many generous discounts to drivers who qualify under one of their programs. Mature drivers, safe drivers and good students all qualify for discounts. Safety devices in the vehicle as well as safety courses taken by the driver will qualify for additional discounts. Policy holders that received discounts in the past are also open to further discounts when the policy is renewed. Paying your policy in full instead of financing can also save you on the overall cost of your policy.
You must by a Meritplan Policy through a broker. There is no way to access the company directly to purchase a policy. At this time only licensed insurance agents can offer these plans and policy quotes are given on many insurance search engines.
Meritplan does not handle its own customer service or claims service directly. Meritplan has hired Arrowhead Central Insurance Agency to handle all of its customer service issues and American Claims Management to process its claims. Both can be handled via the web or telephone.
There is no listing currently of how many states the Meritplan auto policies are available in or whether or not you can receive discounts if you purchase other types of policies through one of their partner companies such as Balboa Insurance.
