Farm Discount

If your principle profession is farming and/or ranching; your automobiles, predominantly used for farming purposes, are entitled to a variable discount known as the Farm Discount.

Those who qualify for the farming discount are typically defined as those who generally attempt to maximize financial income from grain, flowers, produce, or livestock. Subsistence Farmers, those who farm a small area with limited resource inputs, and produce only enough food to meet the needs of his/her family, generally do not qualify for this type variable discount.

In many cases, there are weight and axel restrictions for farm trucks and automobiles. If you’re looking to purchase a new vehicle for your farm or ranch, take a moment to research those restrictions and make sure you can capitalize on your farming discount. You’ll want to compare a few auto insurance carriers to get the best rate.

This farm discount may be applied to any automobile insured by the owner, tenant or permanent resident of the farm, ranch or orchard property; however any automobiles receiving a farming discount must not be used in driving to and from work other than farming, or in driving to or from school.

Moreover, trucks licensed as farm trucks may not be used for any non-farm occupation, trade or employment. If you use your truck for an outside job or other commercial purpose, you need to license your truck as a dual purpose farm vehicle. You may use a farm truck for personal or family purposes but not for commuting to another job.
